PLANDAMPF BOOK "FASZINATION SCHWARZE RIESEN" The long awaited book about the history of Plandampf has been published. The book covering all aspects of the 20 years of Plandampf is written by various authors and edited by Richard Goergen, of the Revierdampf Team. It is about 180 pages with about 200 photos. Almost all the text is in German, of course, apart from my contribution! If you are interested please let me know so I can update you on the price and postage cost. PLANDAMPF is the concept of getting sufficient enthusiasts to pay to use preserved steam locomotives to haul scheduled passenger and /or goods trains. This idea started in Germany in October 1990, and has seen a large number of highly successful events. David Sprackland from Andover, England, has been the key UK contact point for information on these events since they started and this page has been given to him so that his much appreciated work in this area can continue. Planned events will be featured here, along with certain Sonderzug being run by Plandampf organisers in Germany.

As full details of the next major Plandampf become available Plandampfers will be able to use a link on this page to use a printable application form that can be posted off to David along with your remittance. Please note that payments will still need to be made as before, i.e by cheque. So again, to make sure you can use this new service please add this page to your "Favourites". Every effort will be made to try and post up to date and accurate information here. But any of the events below can be cancelled for a number of reasons: sometimes very close to the actual date the event is planned for. This could be because one or more of the locos becomes unserviceable, because insufficient people have paid for the event, because late changes have been imposed by DB or a host of other reasons. So be warned! And please also read the DISCLAIMER on this web page and also the Notes and Conditions for attendance at Plandampfs and other Events which must be accepted by anyone wishing to participate. Plandampf & Other Events Plandampf event "85 years of the 44 class".11-13th April 2103
YES, PLANDAMPF IS BACK! To celebrate 85 years since the introduction of the Class 44 2-10-0, the last two remaining active examples will work scheduled and special goods trains on the Eisenach - Meiningen (Werrabahn) line again for three days this spring. In addition to the Class 44s, 41 1144 will also be in service, including hauling special passenger trains on Friday, 12 April. Paying participants will be able to ride on these at no extra cost. As in previous years, the highlight will be the heavy gravel train on the Saturday evening from Immelborn to Eisenach using all three locos. THE PROPOSED OUTLINE PLAN Thursday Full day of steam with scheduled and special goods trains including the empty gravel train. Friday Full day of steam with various goods trains and a few special passenger trains. Saturday Special trains and event highlight, the heavy gravel train from Immelborn "over the hill" to Eisenach. PARTICIPATION FEES All three days: £295, two consecutive days: £220, one day: £120. These include travel on the special passenger trains, but not service trains. PAYMENT DEADLINE date is 15 FEBRUARY 2013. Please pay by this date to help ensure the event goes ahead, although payments will be accepted after this.
